Product Type: Super Cap

FCR Series

FC Series Supercapacitors, also known as Electric Double-Layer Capacitors (EDLCs), are surface mount-type components intended for high-energy storage applications. The FC Series is designed specifically for reflow soldering, allowing them to be attached to a printed circuit board (PCB) directly. This FCR type is a surface mount supercapacitor with an operating temperature range of 85°C in high-temperature environments.

Benefits

  • Surface mount without holder
  • Wide range of temperature from −40°C to +85°C
  • Up to 2,000hr at 85°C operational life
  • Maintenance-free
  • Maximum operating voltages of 5.5 VDC
  • Highly reliable against liquid leakage
  • Lead-free and RoHS Compliant

Applications

Supercapacitors have characteristics ranging from traditional capacitors and batteries. As a result, supercapacitors can be used like a secondary battery when applied in a DC circuit. These devices are best suited for use in low-voltage DC hold-up applications such as embedded microprocessor systems with flash memory

LS0502SCD33 Series – Supercapacitor Protection IC

The LS0502SCD33 is a complete solution for a system with a backup storage capacitor or capacitor bank. It integrated input overvoltage, an overcurrent protection circuit, a reverse blocking switch, and a supercapacitor charging control circuit. It also has built-in cell balance to protect two-cell supercapacitor systems. When the main supply is present and above the minimum system supply voltage, the system will draw power from the input supply. At the same time, the integrated linear charger charges the storage element at up to 300 mA current. Once the storage element is charged, the circuit draws only 2.5 μA of current while it maintains the supercapacitor or other storage element in its ready state. When the main supply is removed, the integrated reverse blocking switch will block the current flow from the system rail to the input. The linear charger will be turned on to provide power to the system rail with a low resistance path with up to 2 A current. An integrated cell balancing circuit will keep monitoring the cell voltage when charging and keep the two cells voltage at the same level. The LS0502SCD33 is externally programmable for input current limit, input overvoltage, charge current limit, and charge voltage limit. It provides a flag signal when the input supply is unplugged so that the main system can take action. LS0502SCD33 is available in DFN3X3-10 package.

EDS/EDC Series Coin Cell-Style Electric Double-Layer Supercapacitors

The new EDC and EDS series of Coin Cell-style EDLC capacitors from Cornell Dubilier (CDE) can replace or extend battery life in onboard memory backup. With quick response and recharge times, these devices offer higher power than batteries and greater energy than typical aluminum electrolytic capacitors without degradation over millions of charge-discharge cycles.

Both series offer values from 0.047 to 1.5 Farad capacity, at voltages up to 6.3 WVDC for the EDC series; and 5.5 WVDC for the EDS series. The operating temperature for the EDS series is from -25 °C to +85 °C, with the EDC series offering -25 °C to +70 °C. Three case configurations are available for horizontal, vertical, and radial-lead PCB mounting.

EDC and EDS series capacitors are ready to board mount in such applications as real-time clock (RTC) backup, power failure backup, battery assist and in market segments such as smart metering, HVAC controls, building automation, communication systems, appliances, instruments, and other microprocessor-based devices. Because of their high volumetric power density, they can be an effective way to reduce board size and weight. Either series can be used as a drop-in replacement for similar-value capacitors recently discontinued by other manufacturers. Lead times are less than 12 weeks with popular values in stock.
