HX Series – High-Voltage Contactors

Hermetically sealed High-Voltage DC Contactors are the world’s smallest UL508-approved contactors for 1000V high-voltage switching. Since first introducing the ceramic seal in 2006, Sensata | Gigavac sealed contactors have become the preferred choice for any application requiring sealed switching. Utilizing a hermetical seal means these high-voltage contactors exceed the sealing requirements of IP67 and IP69.

Going beyond hermetic sealing, the HX Series can withstand the rigors of virtually any harsh environment whether underwater or in the desert sun. The HX Series of High-Voltage Hermetically Sealed Contactors are particularly suited for inverter systems, battery packs, and combiner boxes in solar or wind power systems.

Applications

  • Energy Storage System
  • DC fast charging
  • Photovoltaic controls

P Series MiniTACTOR Power Contactors

This line of patented MiniTACTOR power contactors is small, lightweight, and cost effective.  At less than 140 grams, the Sensata | Gigavac P-Series contactor can easily be installed in any orientation on a panel or PCB in a matter of seconds. Both the contacts and the coil are contained within a hermetically sealed chamber to ensure clean switching in any environment. Safe MAKE and BREAK power switching can be achieved at any voltage up to 1500Vdc.

The UL recognized, cRUus, P115 complies with solar energy requirements under NEC 690.11 and NEC 690.12. The MiniTACTOR models have a current carry of up to 80 amps and performance specifications that you would normally find in far more expensive contactors.

Applications

  • Precharge circuits
  • Battery chargers
  • Solar applications

Single-Pole Single-Throw Relays

Single-Pole Single-Throw relays provide the most straightforward approach to isolation. A single stationary contact and a moveable contact furnish a simple on-off configuration. Forms include normally open (NO) and normally closed (NC). Normally open relays provide voltage isolation until coil power is applied. With coil power applied there is continuity through the relay contacts. Normally closed relays provide continuity through closed contacts until coil power is applied where the relay contacts open providing isolation.

Sensata | Gigavac offers several design styles including High-Voltage and RF reed relays along with traditional ceramic vacuum and gas-filled High-Voltage Relays. Each of these relay design types offers unique advantages depending on the application.

Single-Pole Double-Throw Relays

Single-Pole Double-Throw relays offer a normally open and a normally closed contact set in one relay. The moveable contact transfers continuity from one stationary contact to the other when the coil is energized or de-energized. Voltage isolation is then between opposing stationary contact and the moveable contact.

Sensata | Gigavac offers several design styles of vacuum and gas-filled High-Voltage Relays. Vacuum or gas as a dielectric each offers unique advantages depending on the application.

Double-Pole Double-Throw Relays

Double-Pole Double-Throw relays supply two single double-throw relays, SPDT, in one relay package. This combination provides tremendous design flexibility. Dual circuit functions can be controlled with a single coil signal. Since the contacts are mechanically linked in many applications, one of the contact sets is used as an auxiliary contact to provide circuit feedback indicating the relay contact position.

Sensata | Gigavac offers several design styles of vacuum and gas-filled High-Voltage Relays. Vacuum or gas as a dielectric each offers unique advantages depending on the application.

Latching – Bi-Stable High-Voltage Relays

Latching relays provide a unique feature that can be used in any basic relay form, SPST, SPDT, or DPDT. Most relays and contactors are considered “fail-safe.” Fail-safe relays require coil power applied continuously to make sure the relay is switched. Once coil power is removed the moveable contact in a fail-safe relay returns to its default position.

Latching relays require a momentary coil pulse to change the position of the moveable contact. Continuous coil power is not required to keep the relay in a particular switched state. When the application circuit needs to switch a latching relay, it sends a pulse to the coil to change the moveable contact position.

S Series High-Voltage Relay

Sensata’s S series relay was developed for the high-voltage ATE market, where printed circuit board space is at a premium. The S series high voltage relay offers a 3kV or 5kV* isolation performance in a 30mm package.

Low contact resistance, through the use of Rhodium contact reed switches, makes the S series suitable for many high voltage applications at DC and low frequency, where performance and reliability are paramount.

Features

  • Compact footprint
  • Designed specifically for High Voltage ATE
  • Rhodium contacts for Low Contact Resistance
  • 3kV or 5kV* Isolation between contacts and 5kV isolation between contacts and coil
  • Excellent lifetime characteristics
