This Intrinsic Safety Barrier Module is the perfect complement to our Intrinsically Safe Encoders and, when used together, constitutes a completely engineered solution for encoder operation in Class I and Class II, Division 1 (Zone 0) Hazardous Environments. This single barrier provides both power and signal isolation for an incremental encoder with differential quadrature outputs and an index. This all-in-one approach saves the cost, inconvenience, and system design time needed when using separate power and signal barriers.
This barrier is galvanically isolated which eliminates the added cost of maintaining a high integrity earth ground. With differential line driver outputs, this barrier can be used to carry signals reliably up to 500 feet with a bandwidth of up to 250 kHz. It is designed around a standard DIN Rail mounting (Type EN 50022, 35 mm X 7.5 mm) for easy installation in standard enclosures. A length of DIN rail is supplied with each module. The module simply snaps directly to the DIN rail and is ready to use. The Intrinsic Safety Barrier Module is also certified to be installed in Class I, Div. 2 (Zone 2) areas.

BEI Kimco’s frameless motor part set design allows for the motor to be fully integrated within the customer assembly resulting in the highest ratio of torque to volume.
In this configuration, the motor’s rotor and stator are housed within the customer’s “next higher” assembly utilizing a common shaft and bearing system. This results in increased coupling efficiencies, and reduced system size, weight, and cost. The high magnetic pole count pancake “torquer” motor produces exceptionally low cogging for smooth low-speed operation and high-accuracy positioning applications.
Features
- Highest energy product permanent magnet rotor design for improved efficiency
- High pole count rotor for smooth operation
- Proprietary magnetic circuit design for optimal efficiency
- Low torque ripple
- Encapsulated Stator assemblies for improved thermal performance
Applications
- Medical equipment
- Industrial equipment
- Aerospace & Defense

Frameless voice coil actuators (VCA), also known as unhoused VCAs, are sold in pairs, featuring both the coil and the field assemblies, which are required to be aligned within the customer’s application. Frameless VCAs are the most cost-effective and versatile types of linear actuators, allowing customers to integrate them into their systems in a way that is best suited for the application.
VCA technology features many inherent advantages, such as direct drive, zero backlash, and cog-free operation for accurate motion, as well as high acceleration and the use of a single phase.
Features
- Capable of withstanding billions of cycles of use
- Constructed with high-energy product rare earth magnets
- Moving coil and moving magnet designs available
- Wide offering of standard products, reducing lead time and cost
Applications
- Medical equipment
- Industrial equipment
- Aerospace & Defense

Semi-housed voice coil actuators (VCA) enhance the basic frameless VCAs by adding both a shaft and self-aligning bushings to the unit. The lead wires have also been upgraded to a high-flex variant, allowing for added protection from wear and tear. Various shaft options are available depending on the size of the actuator, including both external and internal threading, as well as a standard smooth shaft.
Features
- Precision shaft with multiple options available
- Zero-cogging and backlash-free
- Life tested in excess of 500 million cycles
Applications
- Medical equipment
- Industrial equipment
- Aerospace & Defense

A fully housed voice coil actuator (VCA) further expands upon the idea of the semi-housed VCA, incorporating the self-aligning bushings and shaft, but fully captures the coil assembly to keep it concentric with the field assembly, adds an internal flex circuit to protect external moving wires and limits the axial travel on both ends of the stroke.
As a single piece, the linear actuator can be mounted on one side and does not require a customer-supplied alignment system, making it easy to integrate into applications. Housed voice coil actuators feature all the inherent advantages of VCA technology, such as direct drive, zero backlash, and cog-free operation for accurate motion, as well as high acceleration and the use of single phase.
Features
- Designs available with magnet springs and/or latches
- Different shaft options available
- Housing offers additional mechanical and environmental protection
- Single unit that is more easily integrated into customer applications
- Life tested in excess of 500 million cycles
Applications
- Medical equipment
- Industrial equipment
- Aerospace & Defense
