Open-Frame Linear DC Solenoids

Johnson Electric’s linear open-frame solenoid technology consists of an open iron frame, an overmolded or taped coil, and a movable plunger in the center of the coil. This platform is available in AC and DC versions and in two frame styles, the C-Frame style, in which the coil is enclosed only on one side, and the Box-Frame style in which the coil is enclosed on two sides. The Box-Frame style provides slightly higher force output and higher resistance to environmental conditions. Open-Frame Solenoid technology offers an economical design for high-volume applications, continuous or intermittent duty, and on/off operation common in applications such as vending machines and automated door locks. This technology offers life up to 5 million cycles and a variety of size, force, and stroke options. Custom designs can significantly increase life performance.

Applications

  • Process Path Changing (ATM)
  • Coin change diverter
  • Safe/Locker Locks
  • Air Flow valve actuator

BTA High-Speed Rotary

The BTA or Brushless Torque Actuator platform offers high-speed controllability in rotary stroke applications. With a single-phase coil, stator bases, and a matching rotor pole, this design allows for a stroke of up to 45 degrees.

Since our design does not require full-stroke actuation, this product provides a much quieter operation due to the soft, shock-free cycling, eliminating the noise associated with end-of-stroke mechanical stops. With proper controls and application damping, it is possible to achieve exceptionally low dB levels.

The BTA product family is ideal for applications that require millisecond actuation speeds and high throughput such as material handling and sortation.

Features and Benefits

  • High Durability up to 100 million actuations
  • Fast Actuation Speeds with 10 millisecond actuation times unloaded
  • Near Noiseless Actuation
  • Optimized for torque and speed performance

Common BTA Applications

  • Material Handling
  • Sortation
  • High-Speed Shutter Control
  • Valve control
  • Fail-Safe Control

Ultimag

Developed for applications requiring high speed and higher torque motion control, the Ultimag platform is substantially faster than other solenoids.

Johnson Electric’s Ultimag® rotary actuator technology offers a bidirectional, center return function not found in traditional rotary solenoids. The Ultimag platform is substantially faster than other solenoids and can be operated in an on/off mode or proportionally, in both open- and closed-loop systems.  Ultimag actuators offer a 45° stroke; however, the design is capable of a maximum stroke of 160°. For shorter strokes, electronic or mechanical stops can be used. This technology is ideal for applications requiring high speed and high torque motion control often found in industrial, business technology, and medical applications.

Applications

  • Sewing Machine Needle Driver
  • Speaker Movement
  • High-Speed Laser Lens Movement
  • High-Speed Diverters (mail processing)

Tubular Group

Johnson Electric’s extensive platform of tubular solenoids provides high force for short-stroke applications and is ideal for applications that require long life and high reliability. The STA technology is constructed with a low-friction system bobbin, ensuring a life of 25 million actuations. The customizable STA platform is available in a variety of sizes in both push and pull engagement which is well suited for lock/latch operations. The STA Series provides high resistance to shock and vibration to withstand extreme ambient conditions and is also available in magnetic latching versions.

    • Assembly Line – Parts Rejecter
    • Garment MFG – Pattern Generation
    • High-Speed Diverter
  • Medical
    • Centrifuge Door Latch
    • Optical shutter Mechanism
