Ohmite has the solution for high-wattage surface mount chips. The ALN series thick film chips offer 3.5 watts of power dissipation in a 2512 package size. This is accomplished with the use of an Aluminum Nitride substrate. Aluminum Nitride (AlNi) dissipates heat far more efficiently than standard Alumina or Ceramic substrates. Ohmite has engineered a thick film printing process to apply a resistive ink to the AlNi substrate creating an optimal chip for high power. Temperature coefficients are down to 150 ppm providing a chip with great stability.
Features
- Thick film resistive element on an aluminum nitride (AlN) substrate
- Lead (Pb)-free wraparound termination over nickel barrier
- Industry-standard size 2512 for easy PCB application
Applications
- Industrial
- Telecom markets

What is a Thick Film Resistor?
Thick film resistors are produced by applying a resistive film or paste, a mixture of glass and conductive materials, to a substrate. Thick film technology allows high resistance values to be printed on a cylindrical or flat substrate either covered entirely or in various patterns. They also can be printed in a serpentine design to eliminate inductance, which is preferred in applications with steady frequencies. Once applied, the resistance is adjusted using a laser or abrasive trimmer.
Thick Film Construction
We offer over 20 different series in Thick Film construction. Thick Film parts can be chosen based on mounting, application, and voltage range. They are easily integrated into a heatsinkable package for high-wattage applications. High values can be obtained and high voltage can be applied to thick film products with little change in resistance value.

Low ohmic, precision current-sensing resistors. NCSR series uses temperature-stable precision conductor construction, and NCST uses low-cost thick-film construction. Supplied on tape and reel for automatic pick and placement. Precision resistance values from 0.5 milliohm (0.0005 ohm) to 1000 milliohm (1.0 ohm) are available in tolerances from +/-1% (F) ~ +/-5% (J). TCRs (resistance temperature coefficients) cover range from +/-50PPM/°C ~ +/-600PPM/°C. Industry-standard case sizes from 0402 ~ 2512 with power ratings of 0.050W (1/2W) to 3.0W. Wrap-around terminations with nickel barrier and tin finish are compatible with tin-lead and lead-free soldering processes.
